Christmas tree decorations for the church christmas tree
This is a message from a young member of the church. The sunday referred to is 13 Dec.
If you haven’t already made a decoration, next sunday there will be a table for you to. Please bring a photo or picture of yourself. If you didn’t understand what you have to do these are the instructions:
1. Cut out a 2D shape (any size) and punch a hole in the top.
2. On one side of the shape draw or sick down an image of your favourite part of christmas eg: tree, present, snowflake etc.
3. On the other side write your name and stick down a picture or photo of yourself.
4. If you want decorate it with glitter, stars etc.
5. Slip a piece of string through the hole at the top. Make it quite long.
6. PLEASE BRING IT NEXT SUNDAY!!!
From Lucy.

Saturday, 28 November Workday
Work got underway early after a fortifying cooked breakfast and a ‘Light in Darkness’ talk.
You might have noticed the newly painted lobby, but maybe not the various cupboards in the church. The great clearout of the decade was a success, and if success is measured in the amount that was consigned to the dump and recycling centre, then it was a huge success.
Phase I of the clearout is almost complete with shelves being built and tidied up, but sadly we had to say goodbye to all those lovingingly kept bits and pieces that might come useful, the bit that was for that thingamybob, the most useful lengths of timber, the ‘do not use, it’s broken’ item, together with the retired hoovers and electrical equipment that we’ve been loathed to throw away, not to mention boxes kept as a just in case we need to send it back.
The mesh on the mound in the garden has been further pinned and trimmed, and the garden has also had a general tidy up ready for the winter. A hole was also dug ready for the plumber.
All in all, a good day’s work….

Golden Jubilee Celebrations
Princess Alexandra Plants a cherry tree
Sunday 19th October 2008
Princess returns after 50 years
Princess Alexandra today returned to St Luke’s Church West Kilburn where fifty years ago she laid the foundation stone of the church building.
The Church was packed for a service of celebration and thanksgiving to mark the Golden Jubilee. As well as the Princess, those attending included the Lord Mayor of Westminster, and a number of those who have been connected with the church over the past 50 years.
After the service the Princess planted a Tibetan Cherry tree in the garden which has just undergone a major refurbishment to create an attractive and ecologically diverse space for the users of the building.
The current Vicar, Alastair Thom comments, ‘This church has been a force for good in this community over the past 50 years and we are delighted that the Princess was able to see the building that she started now housing a vibrant and diverse community’.
The day before on the saturday night the church held a 50’s party with plenty of food and jiving. The whole weekend was a really fitting climax to our jubilee celebrations. Thanks to all who worked so hard to make this year and particularly this weekend so memorable!

Fairtrade Cafe
St. Luke’s Fairtrade Cafe:
Since September 2008 St. Luke’s has been welcoming visitors to its Fairtrade Cafe. Originally set up to open during the ‘week of mission’ it was decided to keep it running on Monday and Thursday mornings. Since then business has grown steadily.
Angela stewart, the founder and manager of the cafe writes: ‘we have a loyal group of ‘regulars’ and a number of occasional visitors. These have ranged from the St Luke’s photocopier technician to a grandfather who had just driven his daughter from Kent to London in very heavy rush hour traffic and was in need of a strong coffee!
As well as offering freshly brewed coffee, homemade cakes, newspapers and magazines, we also offer fairtrade snacks, fruit, toast and jam, cartons of juice and a large basket of toys. In addition we offer free use of a computer and hope to provide internet access soon. One of our customers put together a photographic exhibition and we hope to exhibit more artwork in future.’
If you haven’t already, why not pay a visit. Mondays and Thursdays 9.00am -12 Noon. Enter through the car park on Fernhead road and turn left once through the main doors.
